An Austin, Texas landmark built in the 1930’s, this fabulous house has quite a past. Interior design firm Fern Santini and architect Paul Lamb stripped this Greek revival beauty down to its great bones, and together elaborated on the building’s classicism. Their no-holds-barred, ingenious approach reveals a wild alter ego: the showcase staircase with PlexiGlas balusters sets a scene that defines glamour in today’s world.

There’s very little not to like. It doesn’t break any of the rules of a traditional style, yet it finds clever ways to bring freshness to it, while doing it professionally from top to bottom. Overall, it achieves a very classy feel. It’s not my personal style. But it’s an example of design done well. It looks like a home set in almost any big-budget Hollywood film. It’s hard to complain about it. I’m sure the owners are absolutely in love with it. Austin scores another victory.
