Set amid the quiet woods along the Delaware River, this dream house, crafted by Wolstenholme Associates, has a contemporary farmhouse meets mountain modern vibe in New Hope, Pennsylvania. Known for its picturesque landscapes and thriving arts scene, New Hope offers the perfect backdrop for a home that feels both inspired and secluded.
Working closely with the architects, the homeowners brought their vision to life with a hands-on approach, carefully shaping every element from the floor plan to the finishing touches. The finished 4,120-square-foot residence blends warmth and sophistication, featuring an open-concept layout, rich natural materials paired with clean modern lines, bespoke cabinetry and built-ins by River Woodcraft, and expansive windows that frame the surrounding forest.

Exterior & Curb Appeal
The home’s dark gray exterior makes a striking first impression against its forested backdrop. A blend of cedar shingle siding, board and batten, and natural fieldstone creates a rich layering of textures that feels perfectly at home in the woods. A warm red front door anchors the entry, framed by soaring two-story windows and a standing seam metal roof on the garage wing. The wood craftsman garage doors with glass panel inserts and black gooseneck sconces add a refined touch.

What We Love About This Home
We love how the architects honored the natural setting at every turn, from the dark exterior that recedes into the forest, to the walls of black-framed windows that bring the trees inside, to the shiplap mudroom with its playful fish sculptures that hint at the homeowners’ love of the outdoors. There are so many beautiful elements, from the kitchen’s raw wood range hood detail to the live-edge dining table, the custom pizza oven, and the loft art studio.

Great Room & Living Spaces
Step inside, and the scale of this home instantly impresses. The open floor plan is perfect for entertaining, while intimate nooks offer quiet spots to relax and unwind. The two-story great room is the heart of the home, with a floor-to-ceiling fieldstone fireplace flanked by built-in shelving, a wall of black-framed sliding glass doors opening to the patio, and an overlooking metal railing loft above. Wide-plank hardwood floors run throughout, and oversized floral artwork makes a bold, artistic statement.

Kitchen & Dining
The kitchen is both beautiful and highly functional. White perimeter cabinetry with glass-front upper doors is paired with a dramatic dark gray island topped with a concrete countertop and supported by reclaimed wood legs, a nod to the home’s rustic character. A standout range hood features a raw wood trim detail that beautifully bridges the modern and the organic. The herringbone marble backsplash and stainless steel range complete the picture.
The adjacent dining room is perfect for entertaining with its live-edge walnut dining table, an exposed brick accent wall rising to a vaulted ceiling, and walls of windows flooding the room with natural light. A well-stocked wet bar with a wine fridge, bottle storage, and rustic wine rack wall art completes the entertaining zone.

Mudroom & Utility
The mudroom and laundry space reflects the same thoughtful design found throughout the home, with shiplap-clad walls, white cabinetry, a deep utility sink, pendant lighting, and a stacked washer and dryer tucked neatly to one side. The adjacent entry mudroom features a built-in L-shaped bench with wicker basket storage, rows of coat hooks, and, true to the homeowners’ personalities, decorative metal fish sculptures mounted on the shiplap wall above.

Owner’s Bedroom Suite
The owner’s bedroom is a serene space with a charcoal accent wall, vaulted ceiling, wood drum pendant lights, and black-framed windows on three sides, bringing the forest canopy into the room. The en-suite bathroom features a wide double vanity in warm natural wood with a white quartz countertop, dual black-framed mirrors, and black sconces, making this a spa-like retreat. The walk-in closet is beautifully organized with a center island, floor-to-ceiling open shelving, and plenty of hanging storage.

Upper Level Loft
The upper level is accessed via an open hallway with metal cable railings overlooking the great room below. Wolstenholme Associates is known for custom homes that reflect their clients’ passions, and the loft here is a perfect example: a spacious open art studio with a drafting table, built-in oak shelving, and a leather recliner alongside a guitar, for a creative sanctuary.

Guest Rooms
Guest bedrooms offer their own personality, from a serene blue-gray room with wooded views and an en suite, to a cozy room with an iron bed frame and floral bedding.

Outdoor Living
The backyard offers the ultimate outdoor entertaining area. A stone patio wraps around the rear of the home, anchored by an outdoor wood-fired custom-built pizza oven on the other side of the exterior fireplace. A fully equipped covered outdoor kitchen and living area with a barnwood bar, concrete countertop, teak furniture, and stone fireplace opens seamlessly to the patio. A covered side porch with wicker rocking chairs and a slate tile floor offers a more intimate spot to sit and enjoy the surrounding woods.
