This multigenerational family retreat, reimagined by Cook Architectural in collaboration with Copperline Homes, is situated on a forested 3.5-acre property along the Deschutes River outside of Bend, Oregon. The home that originally sat on this one-of-a-kind riverside parcel was destroyed by wildfire decades ago. Rebuilt on its existing foundation in the early ’90s, it needed a complete overhaul.
The scope included a full renovation of the main lodge, an addition, and a new 3,500-square-foot guest house. The outdoor spaces deliver what the site promises: uninterrupted river views, the sound of moving water, and a sense of calm that’s hard to find anywhere else. Inside, warm finishes and intentional layouts create spaces that work across generations.

BUILDER Copperline Homes

Exposed steel I-beams frame two stories of glass, while stone and Ipe wood siding balance the natural palette of exterior materials.

The 7,215-square-foot house was gutted, reconfigured, and expanded to become a spectacular retreat. Expansive windows and sliding glass doors replaced solid walls, showcasing views to the vibrant rapids beyond.

What We Love About This Home
This extraordinary riverside retreat offers an idyllic Pacific Northwest escape, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls framing the Deschutes River from nearly every room, while warm Ipe wood, stone, and steel keep the interiors feeling inviting. The remodeled layout effortlessly accommodates multiple generations, from the chef’s kitchen and wine room made for entertaining, to the spa-worthy en-suites, cozy bunk room, and art studio. Topped off with a riverside fire pit, a hot tub perched above the rapids, and a stunning guest house, this is the ultimate family retreat!
