This family retreat nestled amidst the redwoods, blending wine country and mountain design with moments of whimsy, was designed by Wade Design Architects and Jennifer Robin Interiors in the hills of Healdsburg, California. Nestled in a serene redwood grove overlooking Dry Creek Valley, this weekend getaway for a family of five from San Francisco draws inspiration from the traditional family lodge.
Perched on a narrow ridge and surrounded by forest on all sides, the master plan was shaped by both creativity and sensitivity to the land. Flat areas were preserved for outdoor recreation, while the home itself was cleverly situated in the sloping terrain. The design draws inspiration from the scale of the surrounding redwoods, featuring soaring windows that blur the line between indoors and outdoors, welcoming nature into every room. The home is composed of two main wings – one devoted to activity, the other to rest. The entertaining spaces, including a generous great room and an open kitchen with seamless access to the pool, are thoughtfully separated from the sleeping quarters by a long, light-filled corridor.
Built to blend into the surrounding redwoods and terrain, the home features soaring ceilings, natural materials, and a layout that supports active family life and seamless indoor-outdoor living.
