Lake Tahoe Residence was designed by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop as a gathering place for a family with four adult sisters and their parents, sited on the eastern side of Lake Tahoe, California. The family used to own aย vacation retreat on a lakefront propertyย designed by William Wurster, so they wished to have their new residence recall enjoyable summer vacations of the past, while integratingย their knowledge of the Tahoe microclimate. The home was built on the existing footprint of torn down 1950s home, with the main house as well as the guest house nestled amongst the pine and fir trees, which helps to create a wind protected courtyard. Both of the homes offer fabulous views across meadow and beyond to Lake Tahoe, through mature trees scattered throughout the site. The interiors offer numerous sustainable materials incorporated into the design scheme, such as reclaimed oak flooring and recycled glass counter tops. The exterior facade showcases natural materials that helps to seamlessly blend into the site. This includes log columns, cedar shingles and a zinc rooftop.
