Designed by Miller-Roodell Architects as a retreat for a multi-generational family, this modern ranch house called “Five Springs” is situated in Beaverhead County, Montana. A haven for the owner’s expanding family and a generational testament to the value of preserving wild places, its cascading low-slung form touches lightly down between flowing streams, its ridgelines barely perceptible as it peeks around native cottonwood groves.
The glass-enclosed entry is like a lantern leading guests down a wooden boardwalk suspended just above restored marshland. Natural materials such as refined limestone, reclaimed wood, and restrained steel accents welcome visitors into a home whose expansive windows direct attention outward, framing the picturesque spring-fed pond that flows up to, around, and under the home itself.

Floating walkways, both enclosed and exterior, encourage engagement with an integrated network of nature trails. A playful bunkhouse island, accessible only by a covered bridge or boat, underscores the interconnectedness of the 6,200-square-foot structure and the site.

What We Love About This Home
We love how Five Springs Ranch has provided a relaxing yet stylish family haven surrounded by a peaceful setting of streams and ponds. The bunkhouse is connected to the main house by a covered bridge, transforming the grounds into an adventure for every generation. The striking material palette of refined limestone, reclaimed wood, and restrained steel feels as rooted in this stretch of Beaverhead County as the cottonwood groves that frame it.
