Verner Architects, together with Lauren Nelson Design, has reimagined this wine country farmhouse nestled alongside the landmark Dry Creek in Healdsburg, California. The house was originally built in 1989 and purchased by the current owners in 2020. It needed a major update, and the design team focused on giving the interior a complete overhaul and improving the flow from the interior to the exterior for this family who loves to entertain.
This special property is home to a young family of five who spend summers and weekends here, unplugged. There is no TV in sight, only a backdrop of vineyards, towering century-old trees, a fruit orchard, a pool, and a creek. The property invites barefoot kids to enjoy summers of the 80s, while adults can relax under a wisteria-draped pergola.

The project team renovated the interiors to preserve the home’s unfussy ethos while bringing the kitchen and bathrooms up to date, improving flow, light, and enhancing the connection between indoor and outdoor living. The interiors are carefully composed of simple, enduring materials that grow more beautiful with time. Designed for family living and the rhythms of the country, the home is a true retreat for relaxing and connecting.

The original charm and old Healdsburg character were carefully preserved, from the relaxed proportions to the honest materials that give the home its warmth. The house feels refined yet easy, suited to long summer days by the pool, with kids moving barefoot through spaces designed to be both beautiful and lived-in.

What We Love About This Home
What strikes us most is how effortlessly this home balances elegance with real family life, with warm wood tones, natural materials, and beautifully updated living spaces. The renovated kitchen is a standout, with its rich walnut cabinetry, dramatic marble island, and open shelving that invites you to linger. The owner’s bathroom, wrapped in Calacatta Vagli marble from floor to soaking tub, is an absolute showstopper. Outside, the vine-draped pergola and pool area feel less like a designed landscape and more like something that grew here naturally over decades.
Tell Us: Which space in this Healdsburg wine country farmhouse speaks to you most, the warmth of the walnut kitchen, the serenity of the marble soaking tub, or the magic of that vine-covered pergola? Let us know in the Comments below!
