This modernist mountain home designed by Brandon Architects offers an amazing ski retreat nestled on an eight-acre woodsy property that abuts the White River National Forest in Vail, Colorado. The structure was designed as a duplex home encompassing 10,063 square feet — 5,628 square feet (Unit A) and 4,435 square feet (Unit B). Both units feature master suites, secondary bedrooms, laundry, kitchen, great room, dining, outdoor patios, and roof decks.

The units are separated by a large concrete demising wall 30′ tall and 12″ thick. The forms of this incredible structure take on a modern design with cubes that stack and cantilever or levitate from the structure. Mesmerizing views of the West Vail Valley, Colorado can be enjoyed from most rooms of each unit.

The larger of the two homes is nestled into the sloping hillside and features a partially subterranean bonus room and two bedrooms that look out on custom graffiti selected by the homeowner. The master suite of the larger unit was established as one of the signature pieces of the home, cantilevering 12′ from the main structure and creating a covered loggia adjacent to the great room below. 

What We Love: This modernist mountain home offers its inhabitants an idyllic place for gathering, surrounded by a tranquil environment. We love how different the design of this home is from the architect’s other homes, which are traditionally coastal designs. This home’s sleek design features luxurious materials and finishes with plenty of glass to soak in natural light and spectacular views!
