PLAAD Architects is responsible for the design of this impressive contemporary lake house located on White Bear Lake, Minnesota. The exterior facade of this home presents a curated and restrained single-level view from the street, while completely opening up to sweeping views of the lake at the back of the property.
Three vertical concrete massing elements help to organize and define the program on the interior, reinforcing the permeability of light and views and the relationship to the lake.

To contrast the transparency and direct visual access on the main level, a horizontal clerestory window was integrated into the structure to provide diffuse, private light throughout. Retractable screens are utilized extensively along the lake side of the dwelling, helping to blur the boundary between inside and outside spaces, while encouraging true indoor/outdoor living.
What We Love: This Minnesota lake house presents an incredible exterior facade with plenty of privacy from the street facade. We love how once you step inside this home, it completely opens up and maximizes the amazing lake views. Sophisticated and stylish interior spaces are perfect for entertaining in this lakeside abode. The large windows help to enhance natural light while visually connecting indoors to outdoors.
