This lovely Colonial-style house was designed by Bay Area Designs in collaboration with Fiorella Design, located in Menlo Park, a city located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Commissioned for a family of five, this dwelling was built from the ground up after the demolition of their previous home at the same site.
The owners wanted a traditional look in the front with a more updated back. A glass wall showcasing a modern steel stair is the centerpiece of the design along with all steel patio doors opening from the Family Room to the backyard. A pool was added as a direct view from the staircase.

They wanted a bright and happy home for their three young children. You can see this in the paneling, the trim, the cabinetry, and the finish selections. The project team worked with the owner to pull items they liked and to make the house feel cohesive with the architecture. To have the rooms be elegant while feeling comfortable and inviting.
The main focal point of the home was the large open stair against the two-story wall of windows. Itโs striking to walk into the home and see this grand architectural feature. The overall feeling of the home was to have a nod to tradition at moments but overall to be fresh, clean, and contemporary.
What We Love: This Colonial-style house features an expansive wall of glazing that serves as the backdrop to a dramatic staircase and moody color palette. Clean lines and streamlined details can be found throughout, from the furnishings and fixtures to the beautiful accessories. We are loving the rustic oak beams in the crisp white kitchen, bringing warmth into an otherwise restrained palette. The steel doors in the kitchen are another beautiful element.
