The Jarvis Group Architects designed this gorgeous farmhouse modern home nestled on the Big Wood River in Ketchum, Idaho. The goal of this project was to create a structure so subtle that it melds into its surrounding environment. Sited near the river, this dwelling enjoys peaceful views in every season.
For the main house and guesthouse, the design was inspired by ancient Japanese woodwork, specifically using the shou sugi ban technique. This process involves charring the wood, cooling it and then cleaning the wood by brushing and washing then finishing the wood with oil. This naturally creates a weatherproof wood.
