Designed by Walker Workshop, this striking minimalist home melds into its hillside landscape in Beverly Hills, a city in Los Angles County, California. The three-acre ridge top site plays host to 130 oak trees, where the home was designed to blend into the terrain while at the same time offering breathtaking views. The house was to not become the main focus, with glass walls helping to keep the residence translucent and create seamless transitions between indoors and out.
Carved into the hillside, this 8,000 square foot property features public spaces on the upper level and the bedrooms on the lower level. A green roof offers edible herbs, helping to reduce stormwater run-off and lower cooling costs. A courtyard on the lower level draws in natural light, ventilation and a space to enjoy coffee in the morning. The upper level showcases an incredible seventy-five-foot infinity-edge pool.
Materials used throughout this minimalist home include concrete, glass, marble and limestone, and panels of rich brown walnut wood added to generate a stunning contrast that infuses the home with warmth. The home belongs to an American violinist, who plays for friends and family that come to visit. We donโt know about you, but we think this property would make an amazing place to hang out and listen to the relaxing music of a violinโฆ
What We Love: This minimalist home offers incredible design features from the green roof to the expansive lap pool. The unique upside-down design allows for the main living spaces to be elevated, maximizing views. We are especially loving how the architects devised the house to weave around the Coast Live Oaks that are on the site. Not only does this make for a unique design but it adds to the overall tranquility of this home’s surroundings.
