Chicago-based Northworks Architects + Planners designed this contemporary narrow lot home in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood. The historic district sits along the city’s lakefront, on the shores of Lake Michigan. The house is new construction, but its massing and scale echo the older homes around it. Clean lines and modern materials give it a fresh look.
The site is narrow and compact, so the architects tucked a large underground garage beneath the backyard. It holds several cars plus storage, which leaves the rear yard and terrace free for outdoor living. Inside, an open floor plan and plenty of natural light keep the rooms bright and flexible for the family.

What We Love About This Home
This contemporary Milwaukee home has elegantly designed living spaces that are perfect for entertaining. The layout fits a narrow property while still meeting the family’s needs. The underground garage makes the most of a compact site, and the backyard connects easily to the indoors.

A Backyard Terrace Over the Underground Garage

A wall of windows at the back of the house fills the interiors with natural light. Outside, a pergola shades the patio, and a bocce court sits on the lawn.
