The goal for the re-design of this 1950’s ranch style home was to create a refuge from the all-too-predictable Northwest coast rainy weather of Seaview, Washington. This is Portland designer Garrison Hullinger’s own playful getaway which is drenched with warmth to help forget about the dreary outdoor elements. The goal for updating this casual luxe beach house was to remove almost every surface, with the exception of the original wood paneling.
The designer used an uplifting color scheme throughout the interiors. The wood paneling was painted in Sea Haze 2137-50 | Benjamin Moore, creating a beautiful contrast with the new coffee stained bamboo floors. The trim around the windows was painted in Winter Wheat 232 | Benjamin Moore, while the ceiling is painted in Winter White 2140-70 | Benjamin Moore.
Guests are made to feel welcome at this beach house. The designer used the natural hues of the surrounding environment for inspiration in decor: nature-inspired tones infused with splashes of welcome color. This cheerful palette, when combined with unique choices of furnishings that showcase natural materials, helps create a perfect weekend getaway, whether rain or shine. The warmth of the dark bamboo flooring helps ground the space and hides a multitude of dirt, sand and dog hair.

What We Love: The casual luxe beach house offers a contemporary design aesthetic mixed with natural elements. The color palette is very cheerful, which is perfect for the locale, which rains a good portion of the year. The front entryway invites you inside with a fantastic mix of metals, a clear glass lamp, shells and weathered wood mirror. The overall atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the perfect weekend beach retreat! … Readers, would this be your ideal beach house retreat? Let us know in the Comments below!

This tongue/groove material was underneath the chipboard throughout the house. The material was salvaged from the victorian home that was on the property before this home was built in 1957. There are many fabricators in your area that can create tongue/groove boards for you to use to create a similar aesthetic.
