Zak Architecture together with Sarah Jones Interior Design has designed this sensational modern-rustic mountain house, situated in the Martis Camp neighborhood of Truckee, California. The dwelling features an exquisite composition of four free-standing buildings, inter-connected by three glass bridges. With a downwards-sloping property, the architects devised the dwelling’s shed roof to slope upwards, capturing sweeping vistas of Martis Valley and beyond to the spectacular Carson Range. This allows for an ever-changing skyscape as the sunset reflects off the mountains. Continue below to see the rest of this spectacular home tour…

Encompassing 6,352 square feet of living space, this residence boasts five bedrooms, and five-and-a-half bathrooms. The 48-foot-wide Great Room features glass doors that slide away to connect to an exterior deck of equal width, creating one unified indoor-outdoor living area set high within the trees. Materials were selected for their durability and appropriateness to the Sierra Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area.
What We Love: This modern-rustic mountain house offers stunning views and light-filled interiors thanks to expansive walls of glass. The large great room is the centerpiece of this home design, showcasing decadent furnishings, fixtures, and accessories. The heavy use of wood adds warmth to this otherwise contemporary interior floor plan. The layout of this home, connected by bridges, affords the luxury of privacy, with guest spaces and main living spaces separated from the owner’s private spaces.
Tell Us: We would love to hear your thoughts on the overall design and layout of this home. Do you think it was a success? Tell us in the Comments!
Note: Have a look at another incredible home tour that we have featured here on One Kindesign from the portfolio of the architects of this project, Zak Architects: Exotic retreat with astonishing features on the Kona Coast.
Above: The exquisite light fixture over the dining table came from Coup D’Etat in San Francisco. It is composed of large dramatic rusted metal banding spheres salvaged from turn-of-the-century wood horse buggy wheels.
Above: In the owner’s bedroom suite, the closet is composed of a Teak veneer.
Above: In the bathroom, the floors are a limestone tile called Euro Cream.
