A cherished seaside cottage gets beautifully refreshed in Rhode Island

Taste Design together with WKP Construction has completely refreshed a treasured family cottage into a dreamy coastal getaway in Little Compton, Rhode Island. Reimagined for an active family of seven, this summer home provides fresh elements to already beloved spaces, imbued with family memories.

Called ‘Meadowmere Cottage’ the design team created warm and efficient living spaces. The vintage cottage had a series of small rooms that were thoughtfully transitioned into open-concept spaces ready to support family life. A first-floor guest room with the best view in the house was reallocated to the kitchen space plan, providing a vista to the water and easy access to the pool.

Throughout the house, rooms are brimming with personalized touches and tradition. The interior finishes and design are a supportive backdrop to the owner’s collection of antique furnishings and art, including their seven-foot diameter antique dining table.

The entry features a dutch door and brick flooring inlaid with pine.

While it’s a home all about family, the designers complimented shared spaces with well-deserved doses of luxury for Mom and Dad. The finished result is a home rich with patina yet filled with modern conveniences for the bustle of family life.

The kitchen was originally in a hallway and was the main access to the swimming pool. The project team stayed within the existing footprint to reconfigure spaces to improve the flow. This entailed knocking down several interior walls. The main-level guest bedroom, boasting the finest water vistas, underwent a remarkable conversion into a generous kitchen space. Retaining a sense of tradition, it features V-groove ceilings, rustic barnwood beams, and elegant cherry furnishings.

With the addition of a primary bathroom on the second floor, the family no longer had to share just one bathroom for seven.
