Kate Jackson Design was tasked with designing a beach house nestled seaside in Narragansett, Rhode Island using only Sunbrella products. Sunbrella is a leader in performance fabrics for indoor and outdoor upholstery, awnings, shade, marine applications, and more. The designer and her team were asked by Sunbrella to design this home for a bustling young family of four who had major design dilemmas.
The transformation included a makeover of their outdoor living spaces, living room and dining room. They also requested a complete overhaul of third floor, which was where their two adolescent daughters sleep and play. Beginning with the outdoor living spaces, the family requested an overhaul to meet their lifestyle needs. This required areas for dining, lounging and entertaining. They also wanted the products used in this spaces to be both stylish and durable… enter Sunbrella fabrics.
Above: The large backyard now has defined entertaining space for guests, where they can lounge, dine and relax while enjoying the seaside views.
Above: The new dining area not only offers beachfront views, it enables the homeowners to enjoy hosting weekend get togethers and weeknight family meals. Directors chairs are paired with a bench for a casual and inviting beachy vibe.

Above: The homeowners faced challenges of having expansive windows where the sun would fade the fabrics on their furnishings. Sunbrella played a key role in providing durability to their new furnishings. The open floor plan inside received a new furniture arrangement, greatly improving the flow and overall functionality.

Above: The living room is where the family gathers together… and inevitably where wet bathing suits and sunscreen can get on the fabric. This is where family-friendly fabrics are key. The designer decorated with windows with Sunbrella sheers, which will not fade like traditional window treatments.
Above: Neutral fabrics on the swivel chairs and sofas get punched up with throw pillows in tangerines and navy blues. The fabric covered ottoman plays double duty as a coffee table or extra seating when the family has larger gatherings.
Above: On the third floor, the challenge for the designers was to create spaces that would grow with the girls as they mature. The designer infused bright and playful colors into the bedroom and living areas, giving them loads of character.
Sunbrella fabric provides durability and visual appeal to the upholstered headboard, bedding, decorative pillows and ottomans at the end of the beds. It was important to select a color palette that the girls would not outgrow.
Above: The third floor is more than just a sleeping zone, its where the girls hang out with their friends, play, read and dream. The design team maximized every square inch of this open and spacious area. All of the fabrics on the sectional, chair, toss pillows and even the throws are Sunbrella fabric.
Above: The swinging chair is a hot commodity on the third floor, a great spot to curl up with a book. The pillow are made from Sunbrella fabric.
