This modern loft-like home was expertly crafted by PKA Architecture, located on a beautiful property overlooking the Lake of the Isles, a lake in Minneapolis, Minnesota. When the owners acquired this prized narrow lot, they shared their vision of a 4,000-square-foot modern home for active city living.
Design goals included an open, clean-lined, loft-like environment with a balance of lake views and privacy. They desired a thoughtful, highly efficient space plan with useable, purposeful rooms, no superfluous space, high-performance, energy-efficient windows, and a durable low-maintenance exterior to withstand Minnesota’s four distinct seasons.

The project team responded to the site and the owner’s goals with a sophisticated, three-level modern home that plays well with the adjacent traditional homes while bringing excitement to the Lake of the Isles Parkway.
The architect’s design solution entailed an integrated kitchen, pantry, dining area, and living room with a fireplace, an owners’ suite with views of the lake, two guest rooms with a shared bath, plenty of storage throughout the house, a laundry room, a mudroom, garage, and outdoor patio.
Modern floor-to-ceiling Pella Windows and sliding glass doors fill the home with natural light while a dramatic staircase does double duty as a work of art, elevating the owners’ daily routine. The exterior facade consists of a neutral cream stucco and a hint of cedar siding for warmth and texture.

What We Love: Created for streamlined city living, this dwelling offers a wonderful open layout with clean lines and an idyllic balance of privacy and lake views. The integrated kitchen/living/dining and outdoor patio offer ample space for both relaxation and entertaining. Expansive walls of glass helps flood the interiors with natural light while soaking in the views of nature. Overall, we are loving this home’s modern sensibilities that beautifully compliments its surroundings.
