Thomas French Architect in collaboration with Lauren Liess Interiors has designed this beautiful modern farmhouse with a cozy and warm bohemian vibe, located in Great Falls, Virginia. This active family of five loves spending time in the great outdoors, so it was designed with an indoor-outdoor connection in mind.
For this busy family, coming home to a place to slow down and relax was the primary goal of this project. This dwelling features a gorgeous mix of colorful patterns and materials. Aside from the strong indoor-outdoor connection, the owners wanted their vintage-inspired home to offer easy entertaining.

The kitchen features a focal wall where the range is located, directly opposite the fireplace in the great room. There is a sink on the island and on a secondary focal wall with storage above and around it. The island provides plenty of space for chopping and food prep. Drawers in the island include trash/ recycling pull-outs. The fridge/freezer is located just to the left of the range, while a wire front armoire to the right of the range is for storing items such as cereal and dry goods.
The designer loves to add a secret counter stool (or two) in the island for the chef to relax or have a glass of wine and chat with friends while prepping. It also allows for additional seating for larger families. This large family of five enjoys having casual meals on the island, so there is a secret stool hidden on the right side of the island, next to the prep sink. There is a large pantry around the corner.
What We Love: This modern farmhouse in Virginia reflects a warm and inviting home for family living. The warm natural tones are so calming and timeless. We are loving so many details in this home, from the stylish furnishings to the eye-catching light fixtures. Our favorite space is the living room with its rustic wood ceiling beams and inviting fireplace for gathering with family and friends.
