This timber clad retreat called ‘Verte’ is a wonderful self-catering holiday home nestled on a hillside in Chevithorne, a quaint village in England, United Kingdom. This ‘grown-up treehouse’ was built on the Chevithorne Barton Estate, home to the world-famous oak collection.
Offering simple modern elegance, this award-winning escape features an angular design composed entirely of larch cladding that was sourced from the surrounding property. Inside you will find a cathedral-like space with enormous windows that invite nature inside.
NEED TO KNOW: This property is available as a luxury vacation rental on the website Unique Homestays. It sleeps up to ten guests (6 adults and 4 children) with a minimum four-night stay.
ACCOLADES: Verte won the RIBA South West Award in 2019 and was shortlisted for RIBA House of the Year that same year.
The main level was designed for togetherness while upstairs you will find four peaceful bedrooms that provide a wonderful escape.
A large table in the main living area is the centerpiece of this space, fabricated from a beech tree that fell in a storm. This same tree was used to construct the stairs, created from a process known as “spalting” which makes a unique pattern in the wood.
