Dream Home Tour: A rambler style house with beautiful details in Utah

rambler-style-house-exterior

This gorgeous rambler style house was designed for family living by Studio McGee in collaboration with Killowen Construction, located in Utah. The owners of this dwelling love to entertain, so spaces were designed to be comfortable and open where they could build lasting memories together.

Inside, you will find beautiful vaulted ceilings throughout. The open concept design allows this family to gather with family and friends with ease of flow. Studio McGee created a home that is comfortable and inviting. When designing for the open concept living room, which is just off the entry, the designer opted for chairs with a cool back since they are exposed to the traffic flow.

The owners selected a modern exterior with a smooth stucco in a light warm gray and a shake composite on the roof to give the home some texture. The landscaping brings everything to life, while the large windows that go all the way to the floor help to flood the interiors with natural light.

When you want into the home, you have an entry with a dining room and a home office on either side that open up to one another. The spaces needed to have a seamless flow. In the narrow entryway, there was no place for a console, so it was all about selected a beautiful light fixture and attractive rug to invite you inside.

The dining room has modern clean lines, featuring wallpaper on all of the walls that has a watercolor abstract effect. The large dining table was custom designed with cane back dining chairs sourced from McGee & Co. 14-foot ceilings are complimented by huge drapes that stretch floor-to-ceiling. The large opening of the dining room faces the office, where the color palette is carried over to bring the two spaces together.

What We Love: This rambler style house offers bright and airy living space and a wonderful flow for this family’s love of entertaining. The interiors are decorated with a beautiful mix of feminine and masculine touches to create a really stylish and attractive design to appeal to the senses of both husband and wife. We are especially loving the great room with its soaring ceilings and carefully curated details to produce a visually stunning aesthetic.

The home office of this rambler style house features a color palette of blue and light gray, where dark walls compliment light built-ins for style and function. A large-scale map is placed on the wall above the sofa. Keeping the space light and airy, the designer incorporated a floated desk. Behind the desk, the built-ins offer personalization with books and collected treasures. A floor-to-ceiling window drenches the space with light.

The owners love a calming color palette, where the designer selected black and white hues, neutral with blue tones. Every piece of upholstery makes you want to relax. To keep the living room feeling light and airy, open shelves were integrated above with closed cabinetry below.

Beautiful black windows throughout this rambler style house are tied in using hints of black metal throughout — black metal in the lounge chairs, black wood tone on dining chairs, and accessories that incorporate and tie the finishes together.

To not have all of the lighting competing with each other in the open great room, light fixtures were only selected for the dining and kitchen areas and the living room was left without a large fixture.

In the corner of the kitchen is the breakfast nook with an oval table and built-in floating bench, a casual everyday spot for the family to hang out. A custom built-in feels like a piece of furniture and brings warmth to this space, stained in a really beautiful oak tone.

The owner requested a white kitchen with gold accents. The waterfall island features a quartz countertop layered with an oak detail that runs underneath. Long, modern pulls are used for the hardware to add a visually striking detail to the cabinets. The biggest statement in this space is the massive dome pendant lights. Additional highlights include a textured backsplash and high-end appliances.

In the primary bedroom, a beautiful vaulted ceiling is stained in a darker hue to keep the space feeling cozy and intimate. This space has a mix of masculine and feminine touches, with a dark stone fireplace surround and a canopy bed. A color palette of dark blues, black, a hint of green, light gray, and white walls for the backdrop. Wall sconces are used in lieu of lamps above the side tables. A sofa along the side of the wall transforms this room into a retreat.

In the girl’s bedroom, instead of putting wallpaper on the walls, the designer opted to do something more playful. As one looks up, you will see a beautiful vaulted ceiling with patterned wallpaper and an exquisite light fixture.

Bringing whimsy to the girl’s bedroom, there is a lucite and brass detail on the bed, tassels, lots of texture, and a touch of pink. The overall look is adorable, yet will also grow up with their daughter as she ages.
