Contemporary craftsman home gets beautifully inspiring makeover in Portland

This contemporary craftsman home has undergone a complete overhaul by Garrison Hullinger Interior Design, located in Portland Heights, a suburban neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. These busy owners wished to undertake a series of remodels to this 1950s ranch home to better meet the lifestyle needs of their close knit family.

With a love of entertaining, they wanted to create a home that was unmistakably theirs. In the living room, the designers selected a color and layout that would enable the owner’s art collection to take center stage while providing an equally comfortable space for entertaining or a quiet night at home.

Above: Craftsman meets industrial in this exquisite space. Gorgeous chandeliers were selected for an eye-catching aesthetic, paired beautifully with the iron/wood dining table and leather chairs. Inviting furnishings on the patio and comfy accents lead you through the sliding glass doors to relax!

What We Love: The finished design of this contemporary craftsman offers gorgeous, unique, livable spaces that this family can share with guests and enjoy themselves daily. We are especially loving the indoor-outdoor connection from the balcony off the dining room. The outdoor space provides beautiful forest views to relax and unwind while enjoying great conversation with family and friends.

Above: The original traditional style kitchen was dark and needed to be lightened up with a fresh coast of paint. Existing cabinets were repainted in a creamy color, with white quartz countertops on the perimeter and an oversize island topped with a leather-finish black granite. Infusing additional character into this beautiful space, the range hood was refinished into an exquisite faux-copper finish that is subtle and simple to clean.

Above: In the bathroom, a new design better reflects the owner’s lifestyle needs. A bathtub was removed and replaced with an expansive his/hers vanity, complete with an engineered stone countertop. Storage and functionality was the principle focus. Every amenity has its place, which includes outlets in the mirrored medicine cabinets. A focal wall above the vanity features a wave-like limestone tile.

Faceted glass sconces provides an exquisite element to the backsplash tile, while rectilinear faucets and streamlined cabinet hardware contrast the organic feel seen elsewhere in the space. The goal in this space was to have a combination of elements that work harmoniously together.
