A stunning French Provincial inspired home overlooking the Pacific Ocean

mediterranean-beach-house-exterior

This French Provincial-inspired oceanfront home was designed by Oatman Architects, located on Strand Beach in Dana Point, Orange County, California. The owners are a couple from Houston who desired a place to relax and unwind on weekends and holidays with friends. Upon entrance into this grand beach house retreat, one can immediately see the Pacific Ocean.

Genoise tile eaves, and doors modeled on French antiques, give the effect that a Provence home was transplanted to the California coast. On the beach-facing side of this residence, a glass-bottomed infinity edge spa on the main level acts as a canopy over the circular indoor/outdoor bar at the cabana level below with another infinity-edge pool and spa overlooking the sandy beach.

The interior design of this beachfront house was designed with a Provençal flair, and its impressive views of the Pacific Ocean are as transportive as the home’s European-influenced architecture. From the home’s balconies, you can hear the sound of the waves lapping at the shore, and each space was designed to be a true escape for the owners.

What We Love: This French Provincial-inspired home provides its inhabitants with a cozy and functional retreat for entertaining at the beach. A fabulous great room connects to a loggia to extend the entertaining space, with furnishings to place snack plates and wine glasses while gazing at the ocean. The beautiful interiors are filled with old furnishings and weathered salvaged finds to infuse character and charm into the architecture.

For the interior designer of this oceanfront project, the mission was to design each space to feel as if it was on the French Riviera. Achieving this goal necessitated sourcing real materials to create an authentic feel, traveling to Belgium, Italy, Spain, and France. She trudged through antique warehouses, barns, and open fields to find one-of-a-kind treasures that included architectural accents and unique accessories to weathered objets d’art.
