This stylish Colonial home with traditional interiors was designed for a family of by five by Garrison Hullinger Interior Design, located in New Canaan, Connecticut. The designers had previously worked with the homeowners on a vacation condo in Florida. They knew they did not need a local designer, so they reached out again to the Portland-based design team to transform their main home. Pairing the designer with an award-winning East Coast architect, they got to work on the project. What was once cramped, dark and very non-functional is now a spacious and fully functional, modernized home. The interiors were designed to be family-friendly, yet with a grown-up feel and no worries of “do not touch” areas.
The renovation project encompassed a brand new kitchen, family room, mud room, a three car garage/basketball court, home office, four bedrooms, basement lounge and bar, and a home gym. The designer sourced fabrics and materials that would be timeless and with family in mind. They also infused spaces with sophisticated style by adding warm tones throughout, helping to accentuate the striking architectural details. The designers were able to address the homeowner’s needs for a multi-use space, thereby creating a seamless connection with form and function. The end result was successful, a stunning interior re-design with eye-catching, yet durable finishes that reflects the family’s energetic lifestyle.

What We Love: This Colonial home features beautiful details at every turn, it seems that everything has been carefully curated to meet this family’s lifestyle needs. The soft color palette is very soothing, inviting you to relax and stay awhile. The wood paneling and trim work throughout the interiors adds to the impeccable detail. The kitchen and home office are our two favorite rooms, but the media room could be fun for some quality family time!
