Spectacular rustic modern dwelling with a cantilevered roof in Minnesota

modern-rustic-home-exterior

Strand Design was enlisted to design this incredible rustic modern dwelling located in the community of North Oaks, a suburb of St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota. This single-family dwelling highlights what can happen when projects are well-conceived and organized. Utilizing structurally insulated panels, the entire house was framed and wrapped in just six days. The exterior siding materials are metal and wood.

Opening up to the South, the design provides solar heat gain during the winter months, while cantilevered overhangs shelter direct light during the summer months. Following the sloped grade of the property, the 2:12 pitch of the roof plane falls gradually towards the north, creating a sense of compression while enabling for an intimate connection with the surrounding wetlands.

What We Love: This rustic modern dwelling features unique design features from the cantilevered roofline to the mix of materials used in both the interior and exterior. We love how this home was designed to take advantage of the sun during the winter and protect it from the elements in the summer. Minimally designed interiors offer clean lines and low-maintenance for an overall exquisite place to call home.

Tell Us: If this was your home, what details in the design would you change or do you think everything is perfect just the way it is? Please share your thoughts in the Comments below, we love reading your feedback!

What is the square feet of this house? I’m looking for something around 1300 sf as it’s just me.

What paint color is the gray? We are using a lot of corten, with wood, and looking for a gray to accent it all!
