Classic Cape Cod design gets a modern twist in Southern California

This Cape Cod beauty was designed by GDC Construction, located in Bird Rock, a seaside neighborhood within the larger community of La Jolla in San Diego, California. The family wished to bring Cape Cod charm to California, while integrating a modern twist on the classic Cape Cod design. In addition to being a custom-built home, an important element of this project was creating a structure that was harmonious with the vision of interiors studio Amber Interiors.

The interiors of this home has a slight, laid-back bohemian vibe, which compliments the clean lines and classic elegance of the Cape Cod-style design for the exterior. Three types of wooden siding, a metal standing-seam roof and a stunning hardwood deck compliments the simple white finish of the exterior. On the interior, every space features traditional crafts mixed with modern flourishes — from the tongue and groove paneling to the wide plank oil-finished hardwood flooring.
