A sculptural modern abode designed by Ken Linsteadt Architects in collaboration with Kendall Wilkinson Design overlooks the Santa Cruz Mountains and Silicon Valley, California. The clients, a couple with a young son, lived nearby this property when it came available. They were drawn to the physical beauty and solitude of the site, it was just in need of some updates. The new homeowners wanted were interested in high-quality design and art and a great design team to bring their vision to fruition. The home needed to be significantly renovated, as it was in a Mediterranean style, but the wife was interested in a more modern architectural style.

The property features a spacious main residence along with a guest house and spa. “On the exterior, the lacy grid of glass and steel windows reveals the substantial yet airy feel of the architecture. A floating plane of steel on the roof caps the two story façade of Minnesota limestone,” explains the architects.

A minimalist palette has been used indoors and out, providing a clean-lined yet warm backdrop for the homeowners well-appointed furnishings and art. Material elements include: Minnesota limestone, plaster, bronzed steel, and glass.

What We Love: Beautiful furnishings, materials and finishes can be seen throughout this sculptural modern abode. Just the right amount of color, pattern and texture has been added into the interior design scheme so as not to detract from the natural beauty of the landscape. Spaces flow harmoniously from one to the next, making a very livable family home. Readers, what are your thoughts on this home? Please share your comments with us below!

The guest house was a classic 1970’s ranch, which has been fully gutted to offer visitors a more inviting place to relax. A myriad of interconnecting rooms on the lower level now features a surprising luxury—an expansive indoor swimming pool.
