When you want to build an addition to your home to create more space, you may think you’re going to need to build something huge. While this is the case in some situations, you can also make big changes with a relatively small project. The key to making a big impact is all about strategic planning and quality work.
Kitchen Remodel and Addition in Larchmont, NY
When we began this kitchen remodel and addition in Larchmont, New York, our main objective was to create more space for the homeowner. As we communicated with the homeowner, we used specialized software to create photo-quality 3-D imaging to bring the homeowner’s needs to life.
3-D imaging is a good idea for any homeowner undergoing a remodel, as it gives you a clear picture of what to expect. As you see your ideas portrayed in 3-D, you can be certain that your specifications are being handled the way you want. 3-D imaging also makes the process much more efficient, while removing guesswork and disappointment. Both the contractor and the homeowner are clear on the expectations of the project.
Before The Remodel
While the existing kitchen was basic and attractive, it wasn’t big enough to meet the homeowner’s needs. The design and small square footage made for a cramped feel when more than one cook was in the kitchen, and it was difficult to move around smoothly. The homeowner wanted a completely new and updated look, with more space, storage, and better flow.
Down to the Bones
We began the remodel by completely demolishing the existing kitchen. At the same time, we began to build the addition so we could open up the space to provide more square footage.
Aesthetics
Remodeling a kitchen isn’t only about expanding space and making an easier work/entertainment area. It’s also about creating a beautiful space that’s inviting to anyone who enters. It’s about extra touches that make the kitchen a place of peace and security. It’s about feeling good in your space.
We added several aesthetic touches to capture that inviting feel and to make the homeowner feel joy upon entering the room.
Custom Cabinetry: Anybody can pick cabinetry from a showroom floor, but we wanted to give the homeowner something that was unique to them and their needs. The custom cabinetry in this Larchmont kitchen includes pull-out drawers, beautiful handles, and clean design.
Wood Floors: The previous floors did the job, but they didn’t add any character to the room. We added wide-plank flooring for a luxurious feel.
Windows and Skylight: Building onto the kitchen gave us the space to add plenty of natural light with gorgeous windows and a skylight.
French Doors: Instead of basic doors, we used paneled French doors to bring in even more soft, natural light.
Granite Countertops: The homeowner chose a sleek, modern, gray granite for the countertops, which contrasts perfectly with the white cabinetry, completely updating the look of the kitchen.
Tile Backsplash: The neutral tile backsplash adds a clean and textured element to the kitchen, and the blue tile behind the stove adds a pop of interest.
Custom Lighting: Custom lighting includes spotlights, under-cabinet lighting, and beautiful lighting fixtures above the island. This creates a soft, warm ambiance for the room, while lighting the specific work areas of the kitchen.
Functional Features
While the kitchen is a work of art, it also needs to function efficiently. We designed the space for a smooth flow and movement, and also installed new appliances, a sub-zero refrigerator, a rugged and attractive farm sink, and nickel hardware.
In addition, while the floors were ripped up, we added radiant heat. Getting out of bed is much easier when you know your toes won’t freeze. Radiant heat in the floors warms up the kitchen efficiently, providing an extra element of comfort.
Exterior
While the interior is an obvious upgrade, it wouldn’t be as successful if the exterior looked out of place. Fortunately, this relatively small addition blends into the home on the exterior. It takes up very little space in the backyard, and it isn’t even obvious that the addition wasn’t original to the house.
Happy Homeowner
The homeowner of this Larchmont home was thrilled with the results of the kitchen remodel. Careful planning allowed a relatively small addition to completely expand a space and add beauty to the home.
