This magnificent home set atop an environmentally sensitive site was designed by 9point9 Architects, located in Nobby Headland, Magnetic Island, just off the coast of Queensland, Australia. This pristine island is accessed by ferry or private boat from the mainland, making it an ideal spot to unwind and luxuriate. The home offers elevated views of the Coral Sea and mountains, surrounded by sculptural rock formations, pine trees and eucalypts. The property has been set up as a series of pavilions, with raised footings so as not to destroy the sensitive site. The house integrates beautifully into its surrounding environment through both its architectural form and materiality. The interiors feature high-end furnishings, finishes and fittings with automation throughout, creating a sense of luxury.
The interior spaces were designed to connect to the outdoors and the ancient weathered boulders that surrounds the verdant Magnetic Island site. As you sit out on the elevated balcony and look out above the treetops, you will be amazed by the peace and quite of this island dwelling. The natural environment pulls out in, a stark contrast with urban life, making this a preferred destination for those looking to escape the mainland. The design of the home encourages its tenants to move out towards the boundaries of the structure to connect with the sights and sounds of the serene landscape.

What We Love: The beautiful indoor-outdoor connection with views out to the tranquil ocean… and of course the spectacular site, love the ruggedness, looks like paradise! The interiors are not overdone, so as not to detract from what really matters, the outdoor landscape. Creating a series of pavilions to protect the sensitive site was not only a smart environmental solution, but it also helps to elevate the home and help to more efficiently capture the views. 1 Kindesign readers, what are your opinions on this island home, do you like the design concept?
