An historical school house has been converted into a stunning loft style dwelling by Mark Ashby Design, located in the historic Queen Anne district of Seattle, Washington. This grand residence is set in a privileged location just blocks from the water. The project entailed a full scale remodel of the property, preserving structural details and infusing the spaces with modern furnishings and decor. All the interior spaces were opened up to encourage maximum natural light, making the home feel bright and airy. Light hard wood flooring runs throughout the main living spaces, complimented by crisp white walls and soaring ceilings, in keeping with the lightness of space. The design team also helped with curating the homeowner’s extensive art collection, which can be seen showcased on the walls throughout the home. Outside of the home, beautifully manicured gardens around the front makes the home feel stately, while living spaces around the back of the property are comfortable and inviting. The gardens to the back of the property are very lush, allowing the homeowners to enjoy views from their windows at every angle.
What We Love: The novelty of turning a school into a home seems like a major undertaking, but this home turned out truly spectacular. The open spaces are very livable, the modern furnishings feel cozy with the expansive windows drawing nature inside. The home feels like living an art gallery space, so if you love art, this would make an amazing home!
