This urban contemporary home was designed by Rosewood Custom Builders, located in Lakewood, a neighborhood in East Dallas, Texas. The two-story home is set on a cul-de-sac, backing up to White Rock Creek, which provides the perfect setting for this family of three. The Timothy Oulton inspired interiors feature dark accents and crystal chandeliers, complimented by polished concrete and walnut floors.
The homeowners wished to have a contemporary aesthetic but also wanted to infuse warmth into their home with natural materials. The entire planning phase of this home took six months to complete, while construction took an additional eight months. The family plans on staying here long term, as they designed it to cater to their lifestyle, comfortable and functional.
By selecting natural looking materials, it helped the homeowners to achieve their goal of creating a contemporary home with industrial nuances. They wanted the home to feel comfortable and inviting. They avoided the use of more contemporary elements and opted instead for organic materials such as iron, raw wood and exposed concrete. In spaces such as the kitchen, you will find clean, contemporary lines that have been softened and warmed by the use of natural materials.
What We Love: This urban contemporary home features dark and dramatic interiors with the use of wood elements for added warmth. The light fixtures used throughout the living spaces adds an elegant and glamorous touch. We are especially loving the living room with its walls of glass and brick clad fireplace surround… and the master bathroom is pretty spectacular as well. Loving the soaking tub with glass walls that invites nature inside. Overall, spectacular!

Above: Due to the high ceilings, the builder decided to make the kitchen feel more intimate by creating a special panel over the island. The framers created a box with the same reclaimed wood that is used on the front of the island. Plenty of cabinetry has been incorporated into this kitchen to keep clutter at bay. The flooring is polished concrete, with no color added.

Above: Bay windows were integrated behind the range and above and below the cabinetry. This helps to keep the kitchen feeling light and airy. The upper cabinetry is standard paint-grade (Black Magic SW 6991 by Sherwin-Williams), while the lowers are rift-cut white oak.

Above: The island is the heart of the home, as the wife enjoys cooking healthy meals for her family. It was important to design a well-equipped kitchen to make both cooking and entertaining a breeze. The kitchen consists of 342 square feet of living space, with a island breakfast bar featuring a double waterfall structure. The combination of eye-catching materials consists of warm walnut for the bar top and white marble with gray veining for the island. The front of the bar is clad in reclaimed wood that was sourced from a barn in North Carolina.
