This tranquil weekend retreat is a waterfront dream home for its owners, designed by Heather Garrett Design in the countryside of Lake Gaston, North Carolina. This well crafted vacation home is the perfect place for entertaining with a sumptuous swimming pool and fabulous lakefront views. The family main residence is in Chapel Hill, but they enjoy spending their weekends at this wonderful oasis, taking time to unwind.
The designer worked with the homeowners on some fresh ideas, scratching conventional design and dipping into some creative thinking. On the outside, instead of building a traditional boat dock along the waters edge, a party dock is in its stead. Essentially it is a floating lounge that would be amazing for hosting family and friends. It comes complete with a wet bar, television, swimmer’s platform and ample space to enjoy watching people frolicking in the water.
Continuing the home tour to the interiors, you will find that there are plenty of unique features as well. Instead of a traditional dining room, the designer substituted for a beautifully upholstered niche complimented by a shuffleboard table. Another fantastic design idea was to transform an ordinary bedroom into an indoor gym with a climbing wall.
The designer used outdoor curtains to help create a seamless connection between the indoor spaces and the outdoor porches that are brimming with upholstery, cool swings, and areas for lounging. In the evening time, an outdoor firepit in the backyard provides a cozy spot to enjoy the home’s lakeside setting with a warm ambiance.
What We Love: This waterfront dream home features the perfect combination of rustic nuances mixed with clean, contemporary furnishings. The lake house is just as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. A tribute to the designer who did a fabulous job of creating harmony and seamless transitions between indoors and out. Love all the fun ideas of moving away from tradition and creating a really fun getaway for creating beautiful summer memories.
Readers, what do you find to be the best feature of this lake house? Anything you would have done differently?
