This stunning modern farmhouse in Adrian, Michigan, was crafted by Visbeen Architects in partnership with Bouwkamp Builders and is situated in Greenlea Park, a charming historic neighborhood. Spread across two levels, this 2,661-square-foot modern farmhouse home was thoughtfully crafted to integrate seamlessly into the existing vernacular of its century-old surroundings.
Nestled on a corner lot facing a lush green park, the rear of the property is hemmed by a shared alley, creating a unique set of design parameters. All of these considerations made for a remarkable opportunity to design a modern farmhouse that meets the demands of today’s family lifestyle while fitting beautifully into the footprint of homes built over one hundred years ago.

A Modern Farmhouse Built for a Historic Neighborhood
Certain stylistic demands were needed to be met in order to be approved for inclusion in the historic neighborhood. The existing neighborhood is abundant in Queen Anne- and Craftsman-style homes, so meshing these two styles was the goal of the design. The front porch area features a classic bungalow / craftsman look, yet when you look at the side of the home, there are two prominent gables that harken back to the neighborhood’s other dominant style, Queen Anne.

Another feature used to blend the home with the surrounding neighborhood is the garage. The garage was treated as a separate entity, with a simpler Board & Batten fenestration, which lends itself to appearing as if it was added onto the home at a later date – something fairly commonplace in a one hundred plus year old neighborhood.

What We Love About This Home
This delightful modern farmhouse offers its inhabitants and warm and inviting atmosphere for relaxed living. The architects did a fantastic job of creating an exterior facade that fits within the context of the neighborhood while also being aesthetically pleasing. An open floor plan is flooded with natural light, with clean, crisp lines and lovely furnishings and finishes throughout. Overall, we think this is a fabulous home for family living and entertaining in style and comfort.

Open Concept Living with Cozy Farmhouse Charm
The main level delineates its open concept kitchen, dining, and living rooms via decorative beams in the ceiling. Anchoring the living room is a traditional fireplace, giving this home a cozy and inviting feel. Clean, crisp lines are balanced by lovely farmhouse furnishings and finishes, flooding the space with natural light and a relaxed, livable energy perfect for both family living and entertaining.

Upstairs Bedrooms Designed for Comfort
Tucked upstairs are three separate bedrooms, including a generous owner’s bedroom suite with a bed nestled into a shed dormer above the front porch, which is one of the most charming farmhouse bedroom design details in the home. To the rear, a pair of bedrooms share a well-appointed bathroom, making this layout ideal for growing families.

A Lower Level Designed for Flexible Entertaining
A second entertaining room is found at the bottom of a centrally located stairwell in this delightful modern farmhouse. Off of this informal living room are the home’s guest bedroom, bathroom, and mechanical spaces. A smart and functional modern farmhouse floor plan that maximizes every square foot across both levels.
