Peter Block Architects, in collaboration with Beth Webb Interiors, has designed this breathtaking Belgian farmhouse-inspired home within Atlanta, Georgia’s northern city limits. The owners desired a slice of the European countryside for their Atlanta home, drawn to the style’s steep rooflines, light, airy interiors, and an authentic material palette of mainly pale finishes.

They discovered an enchanting wooded site to build their dream house, creating a structure that feels as if it has always been there. It was intended to appear timeless and develop a beautiful patina over the course of time. For this manor-like residence, the architect drew inspiration from noted Belgian architect Bernard De Clerck, as well as English architects of the Arts and Crafts era: C.F.A. Voysey and Sir Edwin Lutyens.

The architect mixed old and new styles, connecting the interior to the exterior with a loggia and expansive covered porch that blurs indoor-outdoor boundaries with its sliding glass doors. For the landscaping, limelight hydrangeas, roses, specimen maple trees, and sweeping meadow grasses are mixed with native landscaping to create a naturalistic setting that feels both curated and organic, softening the home’s architecture while enhancing its connection to the surrounding environment.

The home features natural materials, including a cedar-shake roof and limewash brick (Cherokee Brick) on the exterior facade, and beautiful wire-brushed European oak floors (Crafted Supply) on the interior. Not only will these materials age well over time, but they also help make the house appear as if it were constructed a decade ago.

One of the most exquisite elements in this home is the Marmorino plaster (Domingue Architectural Finishes), a classic, lime-based Venetian plaster containing ground marble and limestone that creates a durable, matte-to-satin, stone-like finish. Natural light floods through the entire home, with most rooms having windows on at least two sides.

Above: In this intimate dining area, the silkscreen prints are part of the homeowner’s collection, inherited from their grandparents, who were artisans. The expansion table is by Suzanne Kasler for Hickory Chair, while the dining chairs are from Bungalow Classic with durable Perennials slip covers.

What We Love About This Home

What strikes us most about this Belgian farmhouse home is how naturally it inhabits its wooded setting. We love how the limewash brick and cedar-shake roof allow the home to appear as if it has stood here for generations. The Marmorino plaster walls are a quiet showstopper; rather than demanding attention, they simply make every room feel more luminous and alive. The seamless progression from the screened porch with its European stucco fireplace to the swimming pool and forest beyond is the kind of indoor-outdoor living that makes you want to spend a lot of time entertaining outdoors!

Above: On this inviting covered patio, the outdoor furnishings were sourced from Janus et Cie. Grounding this space is an indoor/outdoor area rug from Dash & Albert. The crab orchard flagstone is from Alliance Stone. On the ceiling, the cedar planks have a limewash, in keeping with the muted color scheme.
