This modern alpine retreat was reimagined by Marsden Architects in collaboration with KTG Design Co. and is located in the highly sought-after Clear Creek Tahoe neighborhood of Carson City, Nevada. This thoughtfully designed family home blends traditional farmhouse charm with modern sophistication.
Originally envisioned by the homeowners as a space that balances beauty and functionality, the project came to life through a close creative collaboration, bringing intimacy to the home while softening its dramatic volumes and expansive glazing. The homeowners wanted a warm, textural retreat that felt both sophisticated and highly livable.

The result is a stunning transformation of this 5,943-square-foot ranch into a home that seamlessly blends timeless design elements with contemporary features. The remodel presented challenges, including pandemic-related delays and water mitigation challenges, but the team’s dedication ensured a successful outcome. This home now stands as a refined example of expert craftsmanship and practical living, offering both comfort and style for its owners.

This modern alpine retreat in Clear Creek Tahoe blends farmhouse-inspired architecture with a warm, timeless mountain aesthetic. Layered materials, dramatic gables, and seamless indoor-outdoor living create spaces that feel both elevated and inviting. A playful entertainment wing with lounge areas and gathering spaces makes it an ideal retreat for family living and memorable getaways.

Interiors studio KTG Design Co. introduced wood ceilings, expressive stone, moody cabinetry, and layered furnishings to soften scale and create cohesion. Each space features one defining architectural moment, giving the home rhythm without overwhelm. The result is a modern alpine retreat that feels grounded, inviting, and quietly elevated.
Above: The dining table was custom-designed by Twisted Mountain Forge. The black and white checkered floor is marble.
Above: This gorgeous kitchen features a 14-foot island with a dark grigio Armani marble countertop. The backsplash material is Calacatta Arabescato marble. The plaster hood adds to the overall aesthetic of the range wall. The custom cabinets are painted in Farrow and Ball Studio Green No. 93. The fridge is concealed behind paneling.

Above: This space is an addition to the home, called “The Ranch”. The ultimate space (man cave) for lounging and entertaining, it includes a home bar, a cozy sunken conversation area, a golf simulator, a games table, an arcade, and a guest bathroom, along with a separate entrance. Outside, the project team added a patio with a fire pit.

Above: The home office is situated in the same wing of the home as the owner’s bedroom suite. Behind the desk is a black-and-white photograph of the Clear Creek Tahoe’s Coore & Crenshaw golf course. It was blown up and transformed into a high-gloss wallpaper.
Above: A dual-sided fireplace in the home office shares a wall with the great room. For privacy, the interior designer cleverly came up with the concept of a pulley system. This enables the homeowner to open and close the fireplace as needed.
Above: This elegant owner’s bedroom features a gorgeous stepped fireplace (a signature design of the project’s interior designer). The material was repeated from the kitchen for continuity, grigio Armani marble.
Above: This spa-like bathroom features a freestanding tub along with a steam shower. The vanity countertops are Calacatta Vagli marble. On the floor is a Fireclay tile.
