Southern Landscape Designs, in partnership with Liz Williams Interiors, has created this rustic-modern barn house in the picturesque countryside of Madison, Georgia. The owner’s primary residence is in Madison, a quaint town with plenty of convenience, yet the couple desired a slower, quieter lifestyle. Their dream began with a sketch on the back of a napkin.

It was of a cabin, where they drew inspiration from ideas collected over years spent enjoying the terrain, everything from fishing and hunting with their kids to hosting gatherings with loved ones. The builder revised their initial concept, calling for a more expansive barn house that would evolve over time to accommodate guests if the family eventually opted for full-time country life.

For this countryside escape, the designer was tasked with crafting classic, comfortable living spaces inspired by the home’s surroundings. The goal was for the home to feel like an old barn lovingly restored, not brand new. To achieve this aesthetic, the rustic exterior features board-and-batten wood siding paired with a lower stone surround. To further enhance this aesthetic, a tin roof and a pine green door were selected.

Stepping inside this inviting home, the color palette was inspired by a vibrant Western painting that was purchased at the beginning of this project. A bright and airy white backdrop is complemented by hints of teal and brown. This home’s clean lines pair beautifully with its antique furnishings, adding character and charm. It’s all about relaxation and unwinding, and this home is perfectly suited to it.

In warmer weather, the back of the barn is the perfect spot for family gatherings. The alfresco dining area and nearby firepit create the perfect setting for everything from casual cookouts to evenings spent around the fire.
