This gorgeous Southern traditional house was crafted by Hardwick General Contracting together with John McClain Design, nestled on a serene river in DeBary, a city in Volusia County, Florida. The residence is set on five acres on the St. John’s River. The project involves the renovation of a 3,800-square-foot home, paying homage to its horse-farming roots. The designer created elegant, sophisticated interiors—something a little bit unexpected when you picture a farmhouse on a river.
Once inside this home, you will be blown away by the masterfully designed, floating circular staircase in the entryway. The inspiration for the design was to mimic to the flow of the river set behind the house. The staircase is left purposefully open underneath, enabling visitors to maintain a visual connection with the river. The treads of the staircase consist of 100-year-old barn wood, which was reclaimed from a torn-down barn in Tennessee.
The designers worked with the custom home builders to create this beautiful home with ultra-chic interiors. They were responsible for selecting all of the finishes, from the flooring to the tile and all of the furnishings. A mixture of elements were infused into the design such as stone, brass, leather and metal.
This home was the winner of the 2016 Aurora award-winner for Best Renovated House. In the description on the award page, the designer stated, ““I wanted a design concept that held true to the home’s surround- ings while bringing in elegant, textural and sophisticated accents.”
