Bay Shore Residential Design, along with Fiorella Design has transformed this 1950s ranch house into a beautiful Spanish-inspired living quarters in Atherton, California. Nestled on a one-acre property, the team began this project thinking it would be a simple renovation. Over several weeks and months, the project expanded to the point where architectural assistance was necessary to bring the design vision to life. This included raising the ceilings and expanding the home’s master suite, and main living space.

The project evolved to include a one-bedroom guest house that opens to the outdoor kitchen and pool area. A Wellness Center was also designed on the property — a glass and steel cube with a gym on one side and a planting area and steam shower on the other. The landscape was completely reworked to complement the indoor-outdoor lifestyle that the homeowners requested.

Above: The exterior facade was updated with a raised gable entry and an extended back roof, allowing for a dramatic row of clerestory windows.

What We Love: This Spanish-inspired ranch house underwent a complete makeover to offer bright and airy living spaces along with a fabulous guest house for hosting overnight guests. The home now boasts a wonderful indoor-outdoor flow, thanks to the great room’s sliding glass doors that open out to a trellised patio and beyond to the sparkling swimming pool.
