Designed by Fredman Design Group this contemporary rustic home has been infused with natural and earthy elements throughout, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The home is nestled on a reservoir, surrounded by an incredible landscape. When designing this residence, the architects focused on maximizing the surroundings, which offers breathtaking views from almost every room within the home.
The architects gave careful consideration to the significance of both the background and foreground, as well as the proportion and rhythm. The materiality of the design created a unique balance between rustic and contemporary. The homeowners participated in every aspect of the design decisions. Everything from the color selection of the hardwood flooring to the tile, cabinetry, countertops and lighting — it was all a collaborative effort between designer and homeowner.
The residence is imbued with natural and earthy elements throughout, but the design leans more contemporary. A stacked stone wall is the central spine of the home, visually connecting the exterior to the interior, and suggests a line of separation between the public and private zones of the home.
The homeowners wished for their living environment to be comfortable, interesting and tactile without being fussy or overdone. An approachable gathering place that strikes an imposing silhouette on the landscape was the result. An undeniable connection to nature is evident throughout the interiors, which is infused with elements that refer back to the surroundings.
