This contemporary mountain residence was designed by Reid Smith Architects, located in the private residential community of Yellowstone Club, in Big Sky, Montana. The Quartz Project features a brilliant combination of stone, timbers and curtain walls of glass. This culmination of materials helps to create a warm living environment, while capturing panoramic vistas of the Rocky Mountains.

Southwest Montana building company Big Sky Build collaborated with the architects to produce the highest quality in craftsmanship—which is evident throughout this spectacular home. Spread out over two levels, an open layout helps to create a harmonious flow from one space to the next. Comfortable furniture arrangements invites you to relax, while offering plenty of space to entertain guests.

This mountain home displays European style tilt-turn windows and exterior doors. The designers sourced Colorado-based European window and door manufacturer Reineke Shaw. “Along with the standard European style window and door designs this home exhibits Glass Wall construction vital to appreciate Montana’s spectacular and scenic mountain views,” states Reineke Shaw.

The walls of glass in the great room perfectly frames the view of Lone Peak mountain in the distance. The greatest challenge of this design was to frame the views from other rooms of the home. The solution was creating a curving staircase, as well as staggering and offsetting the building forms. Another challenge posed to the design team was the site location. Due to the high elevation, the home is exposed to the harsh elements. This meant the home had to be architecturally and structurally sound.

An organic modern palette is centered on neutrals as the base, with bright pops of color. This is found in the artwork and accents throughout the main living spaces. The guest wing is infused with its own characteristics—integrating unique artwork, hues and accents. The children’s bedrooms have their own themes based on gender and personality.

The family of six are avid skiers, who occupies this home as their vacation retreat. It was important that everything in this home be durable and family-friendly. Local artisans and specialists were brought into this home to infuse each room with it’s own custom touch.
