Interior designer Kelly Behun designed this 52nd floor penthouse apartment as a family home for her husband and two children in New York’s Central Park West. Encompassing 4,600 square feet of living space, the inspiration for the design was clouds. The designer selected a white color palette and she sure knows how to make white look spectacular! The glass-enclosed home offers jaw-dropping views over Manhattan and New Jersey’s Palisades beyond.
Two custom designed Vladimir Kagan sectional sofas ($10,000 a piece) in the living room are set on a 17 foot x 25 foot snow-white goatskin rug — $20,000, adding plush luxury to the space. Another fantastic element that infuses glamour to the space is the crystal-encrusted blossom branch chandelier by Studio Tord Boontje —$35,000. When the designer and her family first moved in the home, the view was blocked by a coat closet. The living room, dining room and den were their own individual spaces. The designer set out to create an open layout and showcase the stunning panoramas from the moment of entry.
A white color palette helps to draw your eyes to the windows and the incredible views. The flooring was painted and lacquered in white, while the window mullions were spray painted—also in white. The kitchen cabinets and countertops are in white, as is the kitchen flooring. There are a total of three bedrooms in the home. Since it is laid out in an L-shape, with the playroom and office on one end and the bedrooms and kitchen on the other, the designer infused a burst of color on each end.
This home was the first home Kelly Behun had designed for herself, when she was first starting out on her own many years ago. She has since then go on to design several magazine-worthy accolades to add to her portfolio. We have showcased a few here, take a look: An intriguing Brooklyn Brownstone Apartment and her family vacation retreat here: Minimalist beach home with dramatic views over the Atlantic Ocean.
What We Love: This striking penthouse does white on white so stylishly that it feels very livable…especially with those incredible cityscape views. From the lighting and furniture selections to the custom designed murals, everything in this home is absolutely exquisite.
Readers, what are your thoughts, do you find this home too extravagant or are you loving the designer’s taste in the luxury details?
