This retro-modern apartment was beautifully renovated and decorated for Christmas by designer Pia Capdevila. The home isย located inย a centennial building in El Ensanche a district in the city of Barcelona, Spain. The interiors of this home features plenty of personality, to which the designer respected its magnanimousย past. The key to the design was to change its interior layout to be more functional for family living. The irregular shape made the task more challenging, as was preservingย all original elements.
This helped to provide a stately air about the spaces as wellย infusing more character, such as the barrel vaulted ceiling and trim work. After the renovation, the interiors showcase a retro and chic aesthetic, reflected in the preservation of the original floor tiling in the kitchen and the bedrooms. Some of the flooring was too deteriorated to preserve and had to be replaced, yet still evokes a stylish, cohesive look throughout.
The interior designer injected warmth into the home by selecting a wooden pallet, as seen in the flooring and trimwork, giving visual continuity throughout. Tearing down partitions and creating a more open and spacious layout was a tremendous change to the home. Additional changes included a large day area and an en-suite bedroom. There are three balconies connected to the apartment that overlooks the street level.
