Barrancas House project encompasses a modern restoration and renovation of a 1970’s home by architect Ezequiel Farca, located in Mexico City, Mexico. The original home was unattractive; however, Farca saw that the quality of the architecture provided good spatial potential. Needing to modernize the existing footprint of 7,750 square feet (720 square meters), the project team created moments of discovery throughout the interiors, taking advantage of the home’s views towards the neighboring woods. Floor-to-ceiling glass floods the interiors with natural light, framing the exterior views without having to compromise on the comfort and intimacy of the inhabitants.

The architect gave the home brand new hallways that lead to multifunctional spaces, which is achieved through movable screen walls, hidden doorways, and wide open spaces with operable bay windows.

Highlights of the home includes a home cinema, wine cellar, gym, two terraces, swimming pool, garden and additional green space. The residence showcases an automatic lighting system and custom furnishings throughout.

Texture and materials were very important to infusing warmth into the home. They include wood, stone and marble mixed with neutral, earthy hues such as dark green and chocolate, helping integrate the interior with the exterior and create the sensation of unlimited space.

The meticulous landscape showcases locally sourced plantings with a green roof and green walls. Sustainable elements also include solar power and a grey water reuse system.
