This minimalist beach house offers a fabulous getaway on Nantucket Island

minimalist swimming pool and pool house

Workshop APD has designed this minimalist beach house retreat that is situated in Nantucket, a tiny, isolated island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts. This ground-up holiday home is rooted in texture, tonality, and material shifts. Composed of a main house, pool, garage studio, and wellness wing, the space easily accommodates guests and promotes family gatherings.

Outside, a sumptuous 45-foot-long pool offers an inviting dip during the warm summer months. The surrounding deck is paved with Goshen stone, creating a sleek, modern aesthetic. The apron of the pool is composed of Caledonia granite. In the backdrop, a wellness pavilion boasts a peaceful outdoor yoga patio and a cylindrical sauna that is accessed via a stepping-stone pathway of Caledonia granite. There is also an outdoor shower, conveniently located behind the sauna.

Above: The exterior facade of the home is characterized by a gabled roofline, subtle windows, and a wraparound porch. On the right side of the home, you will find a garage/studio, while the wellness pavilion sits to the left. Native grasses and shrubs further enhance the home’s connection to its surroundings.

Plastered walls and a dramatic charcoal fireplace in the living room create a seductive warmth, bathed in Nantucket sunshine, while rich marble and ebonized oak coat the kitchen in dynamic natural materials. Furnishings carry a modern, coastal color story through the home, with sandy neutrals offset by deep navy and slate grey.

Above: There is plenty of seating for entertaining guests in this open-layout dining and kitchen area. The light fixture over the dining table is the Tempo Chandelier by Atelier de Troupe. Its minimal profile helps to not detract from the focal point in the living room, the striking fireplace.
