North Shore Nest is responsible for the design of this beautiful lake house retreat for a family of five and their dog, nestled on Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The family is based in Glenview, Illinois, and after visiting this region several times had dreamed of one day owning their own slice of paradise on the lake.

After searching for several years, the family found an idyllic lot under construction by Hummel Construction. It was just the right size and layout that the family was looking for. They purchased the home at just the right time in the construction process where they could still make some edits to the final design. In collaboration with the designers at North Shore Nest, the unfinished lake home was transformed into the family’s dream home.

The walls were already in place and some of the house, but the designers layered in the finer details of the home. This included creating a visual separation into the main level that was completely open concept. They opted to define the kitchen and family room by adding architectural elements that would make the spaces feel more cozy.

Step inside this bright, airy 7,500-square-foot home to find a beautiful blue and white color scheme, perfect for lakeside living.

Above: Tucked off the main hallway, this space was originally the formal dining room. It is instead used as an intimate library/sitting area. It is the perfect spot for enjoying morning coffee or an after-dinner drink, it’s comfortable and relaxing.

What We Love: This beautifully designed house on Lake Geneva offers a family a wonderful retreat for relaxing and entertaining. The design team did a fabulous job of creating intimate living spaces decked out with comfortable yet stylish furnishings. Views of the lake are maximized throughout this home, enhancing the sense of serenity and connection to nature. Overall, this lakeside sanctuary will provide plenty of enjoyment for future generations.

Above: The family room has a sophisticated feel with its custom furnishings and beautiful mix of patterns. Above: The designers added a set of transom windows to create a subtle delineation between the kitchen and family room. Since the family room area was incredibly spacious, the owners wanted their dining room to also be added to the area so they could enjoy views of the lake when eating. This space features gold pendant lights from Visual Comfort & Co., bar stool chairs from Serena & Lily, and a white subway backsplash tile.

Additional changes to the kitchen included moving some elements around to gain an improved flow. The homeowner also had some wishlist items for her kitchen, including a pair of dishwashers, an area for a standalone fridge/freezer, lots of storage space, and a center island large enough for seating on all three sides and to accommodate a prep sink.

The home offers a total of five bedrooms, along with a bunkroom and seven-and-a-half bathrooms.

Above: The upstairs bunk room can accommodate up to twelve overnight guests. This space also boasts fabulous views of the lake.

Above: An incredible bar area features beautiful navy cabinetry, refrigerator drawers, a wine cooler, a dishwasher, and a custom zinc countertop for the bar.
