Walton Architecture crafted this inviting mountain-modern home in the Martis Camp community in beautiful North Lake Tahoe, California. NSM Construction built this getaway home for a family of six who wanted something close enough to Los Angeles for a long weekend, yet far enough to actually unplug. Martis Camp provides year-round amenities, with world-class skiing in the winter and a beach, a tennis court, and a Tom Fazio-designed golf course to enjoy throughout the summer.
Boasting five bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms, this home is spread out over one and a half stories. The kids’ bunkroom and bath are located above the garage. The architects designed this home to stretch horizontally across the site in order to maximize southern exposure and mountain vistas. Inside this dream house retreat, the interiors are grand but simple. You will find soaring ceilings and expansive windows that frame unforgettable views of the surrounding beauty.
Walls of Glass Bring the Outdoors In

Interior designer Julie-Johnson Holland created a cozy feeling throughout, while inviting nature inside through expansive windows. Inside the Kitchen: Granite, Forged Metal, and Reclaimed Elm

Countertops and backsplash are Pegasus granite from Brazil, sourced from Bedrosians Tile & Stone. The metal hood above the range is from Innovative Forge. The island seating is basket chairs covered in a Vero black hair on hide seats from Palacek. The flooring is a local old-growth elm.

What We Love About This Home
This cozy mountain retreat offers large windows that do most of the talking, inviting the beauty of nature inside. Walls of glass that completely disappear bring in the fresh mountain air. Crisp, clean lines helps to not to detract from the magnificent views. The interior living spaces are warm and welcoming, with layers of texture from the stone to the barnwood. With plenty of lighting options, this home will be well-lit during the shorter winter months.

A Powder Room with Mountain Character

Above: In the powder room, a dramatic raw-edged stone vessel sink, carved from a single slab with a rough, organic finish, anchors the space against a richly textured wall covering and warm sconce lighting.
The Owner’s Suite: A Private Mountain Escape

Above: In the master bedroom, a rope and metal chandelier from Noir nods to traditional with an industrial twist. A basket swing adds a Scandinavian vibe to the space. Glass doors flanking the fireplace open out to a private terrace.
A Spa-Inspired Owner’s Bathroom

Above: In the master bathroom, the wall sconces and chandelier (pictured below) are from Steel Partners Lighting. The countertops are marble, while the vanity is custom built.

A Bunkroom Designed for Kids

Above: The kids’ bunkroom sleeps four in custom reclaimed-wood bunks with black pipe ladders and rails, set beneath vaulted plank ceilings. Vintage ski posters and laser-cut metal skier silhouettes lean into the Tahoe setting, while plaid bedding and a faux-fur beanbag keep it cozy after a day on the mountain.
A Playful, Colorful Bunk Bathroom

Above: The kids’ bathroom breaks from the home’s neutral palette with bold woodgrain-patterned tile in blue, green, and charcoal, paired with a glossy black toilet, industrial pendant lights, and a concrete trough sink, a playful counterpoint to the calmer tones found throughout the rest of the house.
