Locati Architects together with Envi Interior Design Studio has designed this spectacular mountain home composed of stone, wood, and glass, nestled in Big Sky, Montana. The objective was to craft a Montana lodge-style retreat with a distinctive, comfortable, and elegant interior.
Hailing from the Bay Area, the homeowners sought a family retreat with a bold and one-of-a-kind design. They desired “fun” and “hip” elements, such as a three-story glass staircase, glass “peek-a-boo” windows integrated into the floor, and a trap door connecting the Living Room to the beds in the Bunk Room below.

The concept for the interior was based on “bluebird” powder days, the clear sunny days that follow a winter storm and provide white blankets of fresh powder across the mountains. The palette reflects the light, bright colors in the sky, the snow, and the Montana winter landscape.
Above: Throughout the home, the wood ceiling beams were sourced from Montana Reclaimed Lumber Co. The Baxter sofas in the living room are from Urbaine Home, while a custom coffee table was manufactured by Earth Elements. Grounding the space is a carpet from Tai Ping. Illuminating from above, are David Alexander chandeliers from the Shanahan Collection.
What We Love: This Big Sky mountain home showcases stylishly designed living spaces that are warm and inviting. Although contemporary in design, the interiors have the added feeling of warmth thanks to wood ceiling beams and trim work throughout. Expansive windows showcase dreamy views that offer a feeling of tranquility. We are especially loving the soaring ceilings in the living room… and those magnificent mountain views!
