Dramatic modern farmhouse provides ultimate Wine Country getaway

dramatic-modern-farmhouse-exterior

This dramatic modern farmhouse was designed by A.D.D. Concept + Design, located in St. Helena, a city in Napa County, in California’s Wine Country. A personal home for the designer and his partner, they constructed this modern take on a farmhouse from the ground up.

The dwelling encompasses 2,900 square feet of living space with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. There is also a guest house on this property boasting 700 square feet with one bedroom and one bathroom.

The exterior facade of this dwelling is composed of board-formed concrete and vertical clear-cut cedar planks. Eco Wood Treatment was used as a preservative to protect the wood from aging, while giving it an aged appearance. Two transparent stains — one black and one brown — were mixed together and applied to the exterior to enable the grain of the cedar to shine through.

What We Love: This dramatic modern farmhouse offers a fantastic aesthetic — not too modern, just relaxing and inviting. Love the use of windows, light and textures. The wood and leather furniture and flooring all blend seamlessly together. Overall, there are so many elements that are appealing and make this home feel vacation-like. The outdoor shower and the ability to walk out of the bedroom and into the swimming pool.

this house does offer a “fantastic aesthetic”. the attribute that first comes to mind is that this house looks very livable. unlike many of the turgidly bombastic designs that (in my opinion) get too much space in architectural blogs, this is a house that you could look at and say: “this looks like a place where i could actually live”. probably what i like the most about this house is the outdoor spaces. the landscape architecture is quite good. this is related to the house because the house sets a context for the indoor spaces. i’m not a fan of… Read more »
