A Colorado ranch retreat frames awe-inspiring views of the Rocky Mountains

This rustic ranch retreat was envisioned as a family escape for skiing and fishing by Daniel J. Murphy Architect in collaboration with Copper Creek Homes, located in Crested Butte, Colorado. Nestled beneath a secluded ridge amidst an aspen grove with panoramic views, the property is a haven where elk, deer, and bears roam freely.

Constructed with reclaimed wood and hand-selected Gunnison County stone, this rustic mountain home exudes authenticity. A remarkable fire tower offers awe-inspiring views of Mount Crested Butte, while a bridge crosses over a scenic water feature to the hand-hewn guest quarters, with another leading to a charming barn.

With two original hewn buildings, one a guest cabin and the other a barn, each connected to the main house by a bridge. A lookout tower at the intersection of the two bridges was incorporated using four 10x20x30’ reclaimed Douglas Fir columns set on a 4° pitch.

What We Love: This Colorado ranch retreat provides a restful respite for a family to gather together and enjoy outdoor activities. A year-round home, the architects did a fabulous job of creating a design that would work well through the seasons. We are especially loving the rustic material palette and the unique bridge design that connects the guest cabin and barn to the main house.

So once again you don’t show photos of bedrooms, bathrooms (other than what I think is the master bath but who knows) or other bonus rooms in this gorgeous, home. I also would have liked to see what I think is a guest house. Such an incredible property!
