This modern industrial home was entirely transformed by Rudin Donner Design in collaboration with Good Bones Design Build, located in Mill Valley, a city in Marin County, California. This dwelling was in need of a little TLC to bring its beautiful bones up and into the future.
The project team was inspired by the owner’s father who had designed and built much of the original house himself while adding their own touches. They installed all new windows and doors, cutting into the foundation to create a new entry door next to the staircase which was hand-welded in place.
They wanted to highlight the red oak flooring, the exposed cedar ceilings, cedar windowsills, and the Mid-Century/Euro-Modern cabinetry with tilted drawer fronts mimicking her father’s design.
What We Love: This modern industrial home provides its inhabitants with newly refreshed living spaces. Since this dwelling was built by the homeowner’s father, the entire home had sentimental value. Updating with a clean and modern aesthetic, the project team was mindful of preserving the history of this home’s past, mixing old with new for an overall warm and inviting look.

Note: Check out a couple of other fabulous home tours that we have featured here on One Kindesign in the state of California: A rustic-modern bungalow gets elevated charm in Mill Valley and Rustic mountain lodge offers breathtaking views atop Mount Tamalpais.
The stairs lead up to the open-plan kitchen and living room with a beautiful 360 view throughout the house to let in the natural light all day.
The countertops for the laundry room, guest bathroom, and kitchen were all made with custom pigmented concrete. Poured, polished, and installed on site for a long-lasting, durable and beautiful look.
Above: An Antique Oak water-based stain with a satin clear coat by General Finishes was used on all of the cabinets.
Above: Additional highlights in this kitchen include an induction range by GE and a Zephyr Pisa pullout hood.
Above: The refurbished ceiling is 1-by-6-inch V-groove rough-sawn cedar lap siding.
Above: The Euro frameless style cabinets needed a sleek fridge to match. The homeowner selected an extra-tall and narrow Bosch 800 Series. It’s 24 inches wide and 24 inches deep, but almost 80 inches tall. The capacity was not ideal for the homeowners, so a wine fridge was included on the lower level for backup.
Above: The wall paint throughout the interiors is Simply White OC-117 | Benjamin Moore.
